Work
Gets Underway At Iconic G1 DevelopmentA 400 tonne tower crane is now on-site
to support building work at the iconic G1 office development in Glasgow’s
George Square. The full demolition programme is now complete and all that remains
of the former GPO building is the A-listed Victorian façade which has been
retained on three sides. The installation of the crane will allow work to begin
on the inner structure of the building. Piling work has been completed on
site, with work completing this week on the concrete base for the central core.
Piling caps are scheduled for installation next week, with the floor slab planned
for completion in the next two weeks. G1 Glasgow, being developed by HF
Developments, will provide 130,000 sq ft of prime grade A office in the heart
of Glasgow city centre when it is completed in January 2009. The redevelopment
of the 132 year-old former GPO building – which will regenerate the southern
corner of George Square – will also feature a four-storey glass roof extension
providing panoramic views over the Glasgow skyline. William Hill, Managing
Director of HF Developments, said: “G1 is without a doubt one of the most
exciting business locations in the UK and it is exciting to see work get underway
on this unique development. “We are progressing well with the substructure
and expect the erection of the steel frame to begin in the first week in December,
which is always a critical milestone for any development.” “Every
detail from the lighting to the floor plates and luxurious open top terraces has
been meticulously planned, and we hope that it is this attention to detail that
will ensure G1 is recognised as Glasgow’s top business address.” Lambert
Smith Hampton and CB Richard Ellis are joint letting agents on the G1 development
and will play a crucial role in attracting businesses to the unique city centre
location. |
