the City Centre Glasgow has one of Europe’s best public transport
systems -– more than a third of commuters travel into the city by train,
bus or underground. Road: The city stands at the crossroads
of the M8, M74, M77 and M80, offering quick links to north, south, east and west.
Towns and cities like Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee, Aberdeen and Carlisle are all
within a short drive time via trunk routes. Rail: The two
main-line termini are at Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations. Queen Street
offers a train every 15 minutes to Edinburgh, with a journey time of around 50
minutes. Glasgow Central has many services per day to major English destinations
such as Preston, Manchester, Birmingham, and London. Air:
Glasgow Airport is Scotland’s largest and is only 15 minutes from the city
centre, offering around 50 flights per day to and from London and links to more
than 80 destinations worldwide. Both Prestwick international and Edinburgh international
are about 45 minutes from Glasgow, each of which has many UK and international
services. Underground: The world’s third oldest subway
system links central Glasgow with western and southern districts of the city,
carrying more than 13 million passengers per year. Tram:
The Clyde Fastlink project will link the city centre and the International Financial
Services District with the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre and the Glasgow
Harbour residential district, via a dedicated system along the north bank of the
river. Boat: The Pride O’ The Clyde waterbus connects
the city centre with the Braehead shopping, leisure and office park area a few
miles downstream. | |
